The qualification aims
- To enable learners to acquire knowledge of research methodology, theories and techniques in research projects.
- To enable learners to focus on linking South African societal problems and international issues within a historical perspective.
- To equip learners with the necessary political and economic knowledge and skills in order to contribute meaningfully to regional and international stability.
Entry requirements and RPL
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is
- Bachelor of Arts in History, NQF Level 7.

Exit level outcomes
- Learners are expected to have acquired the skills of choosing appropriate topics of research, planning, executing and finally writing a comprehensive report on a project.
- Learners are expected to have acquired skills to collect, analyse and evaluate historical information.

This will consist of continuous assessment which will include class seminars, assignments, written examinations in all the modules and a mini-dissertation.
