Purpose and rationale
Purpose
The purpose of this qualification is to enable learners to Support and implement procedures and systems, promote best Human Resource Management (HRM) practices in the organisation, identify skills requirements (workforce planning) of the organisation, Acquire an understanding of people dynamics and its impact in the workplace and on productivity and to ensure compliance with Human Resource legislation and trends.
Rationale
This qualification is designed to address the scarce and critical skills in the country. Learning and development which forms an integral part of this qualification and Human Resource Management (HRM) are cited as third and fifth critical skills of fifteen critical and scarce skills in the country.
This qualification has been developed to align the Human Resource Management qualifications according to the requirements of the Higher Education Qualifications Sub-Framework. This qualification replaces the Bachelor of Technology Human Resource Management at NQF Level 7.
The qualification provides an articulation route to higher qualifications for learners who complete a Diploma in Human Resource Management at NQF Level 6.
Furthermore, it is designed to allow qualifying learners an opportunity to acquire applied competence in the field of Human Resource Management required for registration with the professional body South African Board for People Practices (SABPP). And to empower learners with core Human Resource Management skills in line with best practices and quality standards.
Entry requirements and RPL
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of Prior Learning will be considered in accordance with the institution's RPL policy. Applications from RPL learners will be treated on their own merit and in accordance with the institutional RPL policy. The institutional RPL policy makes provision for 10% admission for qualifying learners through RPL.
Entry Requirements
To qualify for admission to this qualification, learners must have obtained
- An appropriate Diploma of 360 Credits in Human Resource Management or related field at NQF Exit Level 6.
Or
- Learners must obtain an aggregate pass mark from major subjects of 60%.
Or
- In instances where a learner obtained less than 60%, a minimum of two years' work experience in a Human Resource or related field will be considered.

This qualification consists of 6 compulsory modules at NQF Level 7, totalling 120 Credits
- Advanced Human Resource Development IV, 24 Credits.
- Advanced Human Resource Management IV, 24 Credits.
- Advanced Strategic Management IV, 24 Credits.
- Advanced Labour Relations IV, 24 Credits.
- Introduction to Research Methods, 12 Credits.
- Organisational Behaviour, 12 Credits.

- Labour relations (LRA) and employment policies (BCEA) amongst others are formulated in accordance with labour laws.

Integrated Assessment
Three formative assessments constitute a year mark which contributes 50% of the final examination mark. A summative assessment (examination) is written at the end of the academic year and this contributes 50% of the final examination mark.
