Purpose and rationale

The qualification aims to produce a Land Surveying learner who

a) Has the knowledge and skills to work successfully in a professional environment, including those necessary for the management of his business, application of legal principles and professional norms.

b) Meets the academic requirements for registration with the South African Council for Professional and Technical Surveyors.

Entry requirements and RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is

  • Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4 with endorsement.

Or

  • National Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4 granting access to Bachelor's studies.

Or

  • National Certificate Vocational, NQF Level 4 granting access to Bachelor's studies.

Exit level outcomes

  1. Select an appropriate method for gathering spatial information in a particular physical, social, administrative and economic context.
  2. Efficiently execute a planned data-gathering exercise, confirm and present it in an appropriate, clear and attractive fashion.
  3. Analyse the quality of spatial data, represent this in a statistical summary and assess data adequacy for a particular application or problem.
  4. Understand the relation between information about spatial ordering and the economic, cultural and personal rights of individuals and communities reflected in such information.
  5. Understand the statutory and common-law framework within which she/he works and be able to apply this in the advising of clients.
  6. Extend the knowledge gained through instruction by independent study, thought, research, analysis and design.

Integrated Assessment

The institution is currently reforming its assessment strategies to include the assessment of applied competence for each qualification. In the meantime, a combination of continuous assessment and traditional written examinations serve to assess the integration of all/most of the learning outcomes for each module in a qualification.
