Purpose and rationale

The graduate will qualify to be registered, independent professional who

  • Applies evidence-based physical and holistic approaches that will include core skills as Therapeutic Exercise, Manual Therapy, Electrotherapy to prevent and rehabilitate physical disablement, and promote and maintain physical and psychosocial well-being in multi-disciplinary settings.
  • Is flexible and adaptable in implementing evidence-based practice to serve the multicultural health care needs of the country and the region.
  • Is able to take up leadership role in the profession.

Entry requirements and RPL

  • Graduates with recognised Diploma in Physiotherapy and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience
  • Graduate of other physiotherapy programs not at honours level.

Exit level outcomes

The exit outcomes in the postgraduate program build on those of the undergraduate BSc Physiotherapy program. In addition, candidates should:

  • Apply basic research skills (i.e. acquire an understanding of basic research methods, produce a research proposal and carry out a research project under supervision)
  • Build on theoretical knowledge of holistic approach to client management

The following critical outcomes are developed through the program design, content context, active learning, problem analysis and problem solving, critical reflection, independent learning and peer learning, formative and summative evaluation and the development of academic learning skills:

  • Identifying and solving problems in which responses indicate that responsible decisions using critical and creative thinking have been made
  • Working effectively with others as a member of a team, group, organisation or community
  • Organising and managing oneself and one's activities responsibly and effectively
  • Collecting, analysing, organising and critically evaluating information
  • Communicating effectively using visual, mathematical and language skills in the modes of oral and written persuasion
  • Using science and technology effectively and critically, showing responsibility towards the environment and health of others
  • Being culturally sensitive across a range of social contexts.

Formative assessment is provided through module tasks and group assignments.

Summative assessment is provided through assignments and an examination at the end of each module, and a research project.

Articulation options

  • It is envisaged the modules at honours level may articulate with appropriate and equivalent modules offered in other physiotherapy program
  • On completion of the honours program students may continue with the MSc program in physiotherapy.
