Purpose and rationale

Purpose

The purpose of the qualification is to provide qualifiers with post-graduate level knowledge in Human Cell and Biology. The qualification has as learning outcomes theoretical and practical knowledge and skills relating to culture lines, developmental biological systems, abnormalities, teratology, as well as laboratory techniques to work with developing embryos and embryonic materials and cultures. The qualification will offer specific and inter-disciplinary outcomes, and will be a stimulus for lifelong learning.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience.

In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is

  • Bachelor of Health Sciences, Level 7.

Exit level outcomes

  1. Obtain sound, in depth knowledge of Human Cell Biology.
  2. Apply embryonic culture and other culture line techniques to study normal and abnormal embryonic development.
  3. Be able to conduct thorough literature searches.
  4. Execute a research project under supervision, analyse data and apply basic statistics.
