Purpose and rationale

The qualification provides learners with

  • A broad theoretical understanding of Biometry and related disciplines.
  • The necessary skills for the application of Biometry in industry, commerce, banking, medicine, agriculture and the life sciences.
  • Moreover, it provides South Africa with essential and much-needed expertise in Biometry.

Entry requirements and RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is

  • Bachelor of Science in Biometry NQF Level 7.

  4. Design, analyse and interpret experiments.
  5. Demonstrate familiarity with and competence in probability and statistical inference together with skills in data analysis, computing and information retrieval.

Associated assessment criteria

Integrated Assessment

The learner shall be familiar with and competent in probability and statistical inference and shall possess skills in data analysis and computing. Assessment is made through the medium of tests, assignments, projects and exams.

The institution is currently reforming its assessment strategies to include the assessment of applied competence for each qualification. In the meantime, a combination of continuous assessment and traditional written examinations serve to assess the integration of all/most of the learning outcomes for each module in a qualification.

At the honours level, and applied project which requires the learner to draw upon the understanding and skills acquired during the programme in order to:

  • Recognise the scope of a real-life problem in which Statistics is applicable.
  • Analyse the problem statistically and interpret the results.
  • Draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Present the findings both orally and as a written report.
