- Demonstrate understanding of the Biochemistry with particular reference to the areas of proteins, lipids, nucleic acids and carbohydrates; and advanced knowledge, insight and practical skills in the areas of cell biology and recombinant DNA technology.
- Use Biochemistry to solve biological, chemical & physical problems, using appropriate principles, tools and logical reasoning - in particular, mastery of advanced protein chemistry and theory of biophysical technology, accompanied by practical skills in modern protein technology and practical skills in modern techniques including hydrodynamic behaviour of macromolecules, radioisotope technology, ligand binding and advanced bio-molecular separation technology.
- Investigate Biochemical phenomena, organise it and apply it to real-world situations and in particular, have acquired the basic skills needed in conducting original research to completion.
- Work effectively in a team to investigate and report on Biochemical phenomena.
- Be able to effectively handle the literature in specialised fields of Biochemistry, and to effectively communicate scientific information verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrate effective and responsible use of safety, health and environmental issues while practising both in the laboratory and the field and in particular, have acquired advanced general laboratory skills in a biochemical environment.
- Use knowledge from the physical, chemical and biological disciplines to solve problems across a variety of contexts.
- Exposure to examples, of Biochemical knowledge-application, in the community.
