The purpose of the qualification is to provide

  1. Qualified appropriately trained professionals for South Africa with the specific knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable them to register as doctors with the Medical and Dental Professional Board of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
  2. Future teaching staff for the medical schools in Southern Africa.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Access may be gained to the qualification through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

This qualifications recognises the formal/non-formal prior learning which learners who register for the programme leading to the award of the qualification, bring to the learning situation.
