The qualification recognizes formal and non-formal prior learning (incorporating experiential learning) at a Further Education and Training Certificate Level 4 or a functional equivalent.

To successfully complete the qualification the learner will have to demonstrate his/her learning via module specific learning outcomes as well as critical cross-field learning outcomes.

Module specific outcomes will include capabilities relating to module knowledge and the understanding thereof within a management leadership context and capabilities relating to integrated knowledge and skills from a variety of disciplines within the management leadership field.

Critical cross-field outcomes will include those specified in the learning outcomes for approved modules in the certificate and as appropriate to the learner's field of practice.

The learner will be able to analyse and apply the basic principles relevant to the following

  1. Correctly use management leadership terminology, definitions and classifications
  2. Communicate effectively using appropriate language and media
  3. Observe, accurately record and account for management leadership features in the field
  4. Adopt safe working practices in the management leadership field
  5. Competently handle instrumentation and data manipulation relevant to the management leadership field
  6. Synthesise and critically evaluate management leadership databases
  7. Demonstrate the skills involved in the construction and interpretation of management leadership programmes
  8. Demonstrate and understand the techniques and strategies involved in academic enquiry and problem solving
  9. Formulate and test the application of management leadership hypotheses
  10. Unravel complex management leadership histories and understand the time scales involved
  11. Describe and account for the cultural processes which influence the evolution of management leadership contexts
  12. Prepare illustrative and interpretative scientific reports
  13. Understand the role of the managerial leader in society with regard to human and economic development

Associated assessment criteria

A learner should provide evidence of learning competency (knowledge, skills and attitude) by means of the following

  • In simulated management leadership situations participate
  • Relevant case studies analysed
  • According to set standards solved managerial leadership problems
  • Within their own organization presented and analysed the managerial leadership applications
  • Within a management leadership context communicated effectively
  • Within the management leadership field forwarded a major piece of work regarding a specific focus area

Integrated assessment

Competence is achieved, through continuous assessment by demonstrating the ability to achieve the outcomes of the Qualification

  • Field and laboratory investigations

  • Practical projects
  • Examinations
  • Problem solving and the integration of knowledge and skills
  • Independent study and teamwork
  • Standardised marking and feedback on assignments and projects

This will be supported by a module credit system, followed by a final exam on the modules for which credit was not obtained

Assessment documents are moderated to ensure that

  • They conform to the scope and context of the competency as stipulated in the qualification.
  • They are constructed in such a way that the Assessor assesses the critical outcomes applied, during the Learners activity performances, towards achieving an outcome.

Assessments are

  • To include confirmation of the Embedded Knowledge component to ensure that the Foundational Competency is achieved
  • To be verified by Internal Verifiers to ensure valid, credible, true and fair results

Vertical: It gives access to undergraduate study at Certificate, Diploma, Degree, Honours, Masters and Doctorate level at the UFS

Horizontal: It gives access to related postgraduate studies at Honours, Masters and Doctorate level at the UFS
