Purpose and rationale
Purpose
The first purpose of this qualification is to prepare professionals in Human Movement Science who have a comprehensive understanding of human movement and are able to demonstrate the required competencies (knowledge, skills and values) in the areas of health, sport and recreation.
The second purpose of this qualification is to provide South Africa with professional leaders in movement development, exercise, recreation, sports coaching and management.

Entry requirements and RPL
Recognition of Prior Learning
Learners will be required to demonstrate that they have achieved the assumption listed in 1. Learners could be exempted from certain prescribed modules (subject to the requirements listed in 1. and 2. should they demonstrate that they have achieved the outcomes of the relevant modules. The outcomes may be demonstrated by means of formal tests or by compiling a portfolio of evidence of prior learning.
Entry Requirements
The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is
- Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4 with endorsement.
Or
- National Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4 granting access to Bachelor's studies.

Exit level outcomes
- Have gained comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Human Movement Science, (problem solving);
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the knowledge in the applied field of Human Movement Science such as Exercise Science, Sport Science, Recreation, Sport Management and Movement Education (problem solving);
- Be able to demonstrate competency in integrating their acquired knowledge by means of needs assessment and programme design, prescription, implementation and evaluation in Human Movement Science as practised in different communities (problem solving, team ship, self-management, communication, cultural sensitivity and technological literacy);
- Be able to collect, analyse and critically evaluate information with regards to Human Movement (research skills);
- be able to explore career opportunities and to set up own practice in the fields of Human Movement career (self-responsibility, employment seeking skills and entrepreneurship);
- Hold appropriate professional ethics relevant to the applied fields of Human Movement Science (citizenship);
- be able to relate to the importance of continuous education and to explore the relevant opportunities (learning strategies); and
- Have developed a macro vision of the integration of Human Movement Science as a field of knowledge and within global context (macro-vision).

Integrated Assessment
- The strategies that will be used to ensure that the specific and critical cross-field outcomes are achieved comprise;
- Continuous assessment by making use of assignments and tests for the theoretical part of the programme;
- Projects for the applied and practical sides of the programme; and
- Internship under the guidance of a specialist.

This qualification allows for both horizontal and vertical articulation.
Horizontal Articulation
- Bachelor of Arts in Human Movement Science, Level 7.
Vertical Articulation
- Bachelor of Human Movement Science Honours, Level 8.
- Bachelor of Health Sciences Honours in Human Movement Sciences.
