Purpose And Rationale of the qualification
The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners applied competence in the analysis, interpretation and application of management principles in the fitness and health -, coaching-, teaching- and retailing sectors of the Sport Industry. The learner should be able to take strategic decisions in the context of a sport organisation, and to assess any internal or external decision impacting on Sport Management. The learner should further be able to reflect on his/her managerial decisions and applications to assess the effect thereof in the holistic context of Sport Management as practice.
Entry requirements and RPL
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of Prior Learning in the case of learners not complying with the formal entry requirements will be conducted in accordance with the policy and guidelines of the Institution concerning the recognition of other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. Recognition takes place only where prior learning corresponds to the required NQF-Level, and in terms of applied competencies relevant to the content and outcomes of the qualification. Through Recognition of Prior Learning, learners may gain access, or advanced placement, or recognition of status, on condition that they continue their studies at this Institution.
Entry Requirements
The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is
- National Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4, granting access to Bachelor's studies.

- Senior Certificate with endorsement.

Exit level outcomes
The learners should be able to
- Demonstrate their ability to applying basic theoretical principles of problem identification and solving in the field of sport management correctly and reflect on the application made. (Problem-solving skills).
- Plan and apply basic research in sport management by gathering, analysing, synthesising and interpreting the information on sport management issues correctly by utilising the relevant theoretical research principles and reflect on the research undertaken. (Research skills).
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing with the different role players in the field of sport and sport management utilising different modes of communication and reflect on the application made. (Communication skills).
- Accountably develop a theoretical and practical macro-vision of the management of sport internationally, nationally, provincially/regionally and locally. (Development of macro vision).
- Effectively and responsibly organise and coordinate resources and opportunities in the field of sport by applying the relevant theoretical aspects and reflect on the application made (including entrepreneurship where relevant), as well as accept the responsibility for their own activities in the field of sport management. (Entrepreneurship; self-responsibility skills).
- Practice acceptable social sensitivity in the relationships with others and work effectively in a management team by implementing the relevant theory and reflect on the implementation thereof. (Team ship).
- Utilise appropriate management technology (computer, e-mail, fax) effectively in the sport management environment. (Technological and environmental literacy).
- Explore different effective learning strategies to acquire the different competencies of a sport manager. (Explore learning strategies).
- Promote responsible citizenship through their approach towards the holistic application of management capabilities and professional values in sport. (Promoting citizenship).
- Practice acceptable social, cultural and aesthetic sensitivity towards the people of the different sport communities and the role players in the sports industry by applying the appropriate principles and reflect on the application made. (Cultural and aesthetic sensitivity).
- Acquire acceptable employment seeking skills that will give them the edge to enter into the different sectors of the sports industry as a specialist. (Employment seeking skills).

Integrated Assessment
Formative assessment practices that will be implemented;
Formative assessment is aimed at development of a life-long learning culture based on continuous self-study and compromises the following: practical and class assignments, essays, presentations, informal class tests; formal module tests in written or oral mode, one per module; research that leads to scientific assignments; self-assessment and group-assessment; an assignment is handed in based on a 40 hours internship.
Summative assessment practices that will be implemented
Integrated assessment, focusing on the achievement of the exit-level outcomes, will be done by means of summative assessment in conjunction with formative assessment determining whether the learners are awarded the qualification. In the summative assessment, learners are assessed by means of a three hour written examination at the end of each module on the study material covered in the module.

- Advanced Diploma in Sport Management, NQF Level 7.
- Bachelor of Arts in Sport Development, NQF Level 7.
