Purpose and rationale

Purpose

The purpose of this Level 8 learning qualification is to equip students with the knowledge and competencies to understand and apply advanced methods and techniques in the field of Mathematical Statistics. This qualfiication is for students who want to enter the statistics profession. In addition, for candidates who intend pursuing higher research Degrees, the deeper level knowledge in the qualification is essential for future research.

Rationale

This is a first step in Postgraduate training and specialisation, therefore this qualification strengthens the pool of specialised professionals and researchers active in the economic life of South Africa in order to ensure that the local leadership base of innovative and value-adding economic and scholarly activity is widened.
