Purpose and rationale
The programme aims to develop in graduates a sound knowledge and understanding of the principles of Management Accounting, and to prepare them to write the Stage 4 examinations of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. It also aims to develop in graduates the capacity for lifelong learning and an awareness of the social context in which they will be working, once they enter the Management Accounting Profession.
Entry requirements and RPL
The prerequisite courses for admission to the B.Com (Honours) year are Accounting 2, plus either Finance 3, or Accounting 3, or Managerial Accounting and Finance 3.

- Identify and solve problems in the field of Managerial Accounting, using critical and creative thinking.
- Collect, analyse, organise, and critically evaluate information of a managerial accounting nature.

Associated assessment criteria
- Identify the key issues to be addressed within the field of Managerial Accounting, and solve such problems using critical and creative thinking.
- Collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate information of a Managerial Accounting nature.

Students are required to identify the key issues to be addressed in problems within the field of Finance, and solve such problems using critical and creative thinking. They are also required to collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate information of a financial nature. They must also communicate information relating to the field of Finance effectively, in both oral and written forms.
This is achieved as an integrated form by the attempting of case studies and the writing of a final examination in the 4th-year module: Strategic Management. This module aims at 'bringing together' various disciplines within business and management studies, and relating them to each other in practical case-study situations.

Students completing the honours year, but failing to complete or pass the mid-year research project, will be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Managerial Accounting.
