Purpose and rationale

Purpose

  • Provide the qualifiers a well-rounded advanced knowledge, specific skills and applied competencies in the environment and operations of economic entities, the market mechanism through which economic goods and services are exchanged, and international trade. Such advanced knowledge, specific skills and applied economic activity and rewarding contribution to society.
  • Significantly contribute towards the increase and enhancement of South Africa's available managerial, economic, and business know-how.

Rationale

Entry requirements and RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience.

In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is

  • Bachelor of Commerce in Economics, NQF Level 7.

Associated assessment criteria

Learners should independently and in groups, demonstrate

  • The competency to manage private as well as public enterprises, government departments or sections to the benefit of all stakeholders.
  • Competency in solving economics decision-making problems pertaining to various situations in a practical way by applying acquired theoretical knowledge.
  • Mastery of subject theory and practice so that the qualifier has the capacity to set sound economic policies and held their implementation.
  • The ability to execute the tasks of planning, organising, advising, leading, controlling and communication effectively in a variety of institutional environment.
  • The competency to manage limited Resources to optimum use.
  • The attitude and competency to apply appropriate ethical standards responsibility and discipline in fulfilling their duties while showing sensitivity to cultural and environmental issues.
  • Proficiency in the use and evaluation of information technology and systems.
  • The ability to communicate and work with effectively with multi-disciplinary teams doing multiple tasks.
  • The competency to conduct research including both primary and secondary data collection, analysis of the data and presentation of the findings in a technical report.

Integrated Assessment

  • The acquired competence and skills will be evaluated at the hand of formative assessment methods like assignments, case studies, group discussions, and tests.
  • Diagnostic assessment will be applied to pin-point general misinterpretations and mistakes through the application of feed-back on tests, suggested solutions to applied problems and case studies, as well as personal guidance.
  • Summative assessment, such as examinations, will be done reflecting on the overall achievement of learners and personal consultations.
  • Evaluative assessment of learner achievements will be conducted on a continuous basis as part of promoting improvement and for the purpose of curriculum development.
