Purpose and rationale

The qualification develops the intellectual ability of the learner in the acquisition, analysis, interpretation and understanding of the following:

  • The complexity of inter-functional relationships within organisations.
  • The interaction between marketing and other functions within the organisation.
  • The functional disciplines within organisations and their contribution to organisational success.

The qualification also develops the learner's ability to

  • Develop a strategy for learning.
  • Conduct a comprehensive bibliography.
  • Analyse and critically evaluate data and information
  • Use the technology to collect data and process within the ethical norms for academic research.
  • Work individually and in teams.
  • Communicate effectively using the full range of available technologies.
  • The above is undertaken to prepare learners for Masters qualification.
  • The above is undertaken to prepare learners for careers in marketing, in a range of organisational types: business/non-profit, private/public, and large/small.

Entry requirements and RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is

  • Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4 with endorsement.

Or

  • National Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4 granting access to Bachelor's studies.

Or

  • National Certificate Vocational, NQF Level 4 granting access to Bachelor's studies.

Integrated Assessment

The institution is currently reforming its assessment strategies to include the assessment of applied competence for each qualification. In the meantime, a combination of continuous assessment and traditional written examinations serve to assess the integration of all/most of the learning outcomes for each module in a qualification.

Continuous assessment: assignments and projects comprise the year mark (worth 30% of the total mark) for the specific modules for levels 5b and 6

Class presentations participation in class discussion and assignments for each module comprise the year mark (worth 50% of the total mark) at level 7.

Final assessment: An examination for each module worth 70% at levels 5b and 6 and 50% at level 7.

This qualification allows possibilities for both vertical and horizontal articulation.

Horizontal Articulation

  • Appropriate Bachelor's Degree, NQF Level 7.

Vertical Articulation

  • Bachelor of Business Science in Marketing, NQF Level 8.
