To equip students with a comprehensive set of specialised and focussed performance skills.
To extend and deepen the student's technical skills and knowledge of the repertoire, with regard to the chosen instrument or voice.
To ensure that South Africa has sufficient specialist music practitioners by providing students with opportunities for shaping their performing skills at a high level of artistic fulfilment.
Entry requirements and RPL
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
- Access may be gained to the qualification through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
Entry Requirements
- Bachelor of Music, Level 7/8.
Or
- Bachelor of Arts (with Music), Level 7/8.
Or
- A performer's Licentiate, with appropriate additional studies
Or
- Higher Certificate in Music, Level 5.
Or
- A qualification that is regarded as equivalent by Senate.
- An audition on the chosen instrument or for the voice is held to assess adequate potential as performer.

Exit level outcomes
- Demonstrate high level of technical and performance skills in a relevant field.
- Analyse, express and justify an individual interpretation of the chose works to be performed.
- Work with others as a member of an instrumental ensemble or theatre production and be a responsible participant in the performance.
- Knowledge of relevant repertoire for the chosen instrument or voice.
- Demonstrate advanced technical and solo skills with regard to the chosen instrument or voice, demonstrating a high level of professionalism.
- Demonstrate specialised knowledge and skills which include the interpretation and evaluation of different musical editions, historical practice and stylistic approaches.
Associated assessment criteria
The following Associated Assessment Criteria are assessed in an integrated manner across all the Exit Level Outcomes
- Creative performance and technical skills are demonstrated in practical public performances.
- A high Degree of proficiency in the specific skills taught and their application is demonstrated in a practical performance context.
Integrated Assessment
- Public performances are presented by students to allow assessment of their ability to integrate the practical skills and academic knowledge acquired in all previous modules.
